I love seeing this tree change through the seasons — bare, budding, golden, glistening. The silver birch outside my bedroom window has been a quiet companion for years, and watching the pairs of pigeons gathering on its delicate branches always brings a sense of calm. Many days, I think... I must paint that tree again!

A few years ago, I painted a similar version of this scene on silver leaf. My neighbour, who shares the same view, bought it immediately — it meant something to her, too.

This piece is painted slowly and with care, over many months, using superior quality gold leaf and soft, detailed brushwork to capture the gentle presence of these lovely stock doves and the elegant grace of the trailing birch. It holds a lot of my heart.

These artworks were created whilst I was taking part in a weekly Art Challenge called "The Golden Thread" - the theme was Tokyo Story. Originals are 5" x 7" and painted in gouache.
